Founded in 1923 by a small group of City of Milwaukee employees, Prime Financial Credit Union was established as the first-ever credit union in the State of Wisconsin. For over 100 years, our guiding principle as a not-for-profit financial cooperative has remained the same: people helping people.

Originally developed to serve the financial needs of City & County employees, our mission of service remains the same but with an expanded reach, now serving neighbors and employers across Milwaukee and the surrounding communities.

Cooperative (noun):

a collective organization owned by the members it serves with the aspiration of achieving a common social or economic outcome.

The Prime Financial Difference

Credit unions are member-owned, not-for-profit organizations that focus on maximizing benefits for their membership through better interest rates, lower fees, and member-centric offerings. On the other hand, while banks offer similar financial products, their for-profit model means they aim to generate profits for investors. Prime Financial Credit Union is federally insured by the NCUA. No member has ever lost a penny with a credit union!

As a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), Prime Financial Credit Union stands out among other credit unions. We aim to create an inclusive financial system by providing trusted and accessible financial products, services, and educational resources in our local communities.

Juntos Avanzamos, or “Together We Advance”, is a designation awarded to credit unions that celebrates their commitment to inclusivity, community development, and financial empowerment for Hispanic & migrant community members.

30% of PFCU staff
are bilingual!

Prime Financial Credit Union embodies the Juntos Avanzamos spirit with bilingual customer service, culturally relevant financial education, and acceptance of alternate IDs to open accounts to help migrants navigate the U.S. financial system with confidence.
